2001 - 2002 Domestic Violence Related Statistics/Information
19 April 2002In Western Australia, from April 2001 to April 2002 there has been :
- 17 DV related deaths
- x7 Domestic Violence-related Attempted Murders

"Nine people died as a result of domestic violence in the first four months of this year"
"...domestic violence incidents account for half the State's police work."
It was found in the evaluation report on the Joondalup Family Violence Court project found that:
- Police attended 4541 domestic violence incidents in the Cannington, Mirrabooka and Joondalup police districts involving 6239 adults and 3523 children
- 46% of incidents involved alcohol
- 29% involved other drugs
- 56% of incidents involved both alcohol and other drugs
- 73 % of the domestic violence incidents attended by police are witnessed by children

Compared to the previous year's figure of 3, 432 women seeking accommodation services, the WA SAAP National Data Collection's Annual Report (July to June 2000/2001) reveals that 4,050 women sought accommodation services. Of those women, 2,150 had sought services for the first time
