The Women’s Refuge Group of WA Inc. invites you to their Inaugural Conference to be held in picturesque, coastal Mandurah, Western Australia just 45 minutes from Perth CBD.
The Women’s Refuge Group of WA Inc. is a peak community based organisation established in 1977 to provide a co-ordinated and unified voice for Women’s Refuge Services throughout Western Australia and to advocate on behalf of Refuges and the women and children who are experiencing family and domestic violence.
Providing holistic and integrated responses to violence against women and children is essential, as the need for appropriate government and community interventions.
The Conference aims to bring together International, National and Local Community Leaders to promote established programs and practices within the field of Family and Domestic Violence.
The conference objective is to develop a committed community response to dealing with family and domestic violence through:
- Examining the impact of family and domestic violence on the community, workplace and home environment.
- Focusing on innovative work program.
- Seeking solutions for current issues and complexities around family and domestic violence.
- Highlight the special needs experienced by Rural and Remote Areas.
It will give you the opportunity to undertake a strategic review and analysis of your current practices and to develop an implement enhanced new models of effective service delivery through different partnerships that promote safer and stronger communities.It is envisaged that strategies identified by Conference participants will be useful within organisations in their planning and commitment to decrease incidence of family and domestic violence.

STOP DOMESTIC VIOLENCE DAY Events to mark National Stop Domestic Violence Day were held during April in Western Australia and New South Wales.
Domestic Violence Memorial March:
‘Together We Can Make a Difference’Women’s Refuge Group of WA Inc
On April 20th 2002, approximately 200 people gathered in Stirling Gardens, Perth to attend the 12th Annual Domestic Violence Silent Memorial March which honours the memory of those women and children who have died as a result of domestic violence. From April 2001 to April 2002, WA Domestic Violence Prevention Unit statistics showed that there were 17 domestic violence deaths, and 7 attempted murders directly related to domestic violence. Now, only five months into 2002, there have been 9 domestic violence related deaths in Western Australia.
Noongar Elder, Leisha Doolan Eates opened the rally. Also attending were Ms Ann O’Neil (a victim and public voice on domestic violence issues) and Police Commissioner Barry Matthews.
All spoke of the need for a holistic community approach in reducing family and domestic violence.
